MP zips in to join sports participants

A summer sports scheme concluded last Friday, with MP Jane Ellison zipping in to join participants.

The Battersea Summer Schemes Sport in the Park took place in the Millennium Arena, in Battersea Park, from August 28-31.

Participants inspired by the Olympics could try their hand at athletics, judo and football, while arts and crafts were also available.

Ms Ellison came to join participants and was persuaded to follow Boris Johnson's lead by whizzing down the zip wire, managing to make it to the end.

Visitors were charged £1 per entry, with no booking necessary.

Ms Ellison said: "For families whose children were inspired to get sporty by the London Olympics the Summer Scheme is perfect as there is lots to have a go at.

"It's also a godsend for mums who are running out of ideas to keep the children entertained as summer draws to an end.

"The event is staffed by a wonderful team of volunteers and we are lucky to have it here as a regular highlight of our Battersea summer
