New Jody Dobrowski tribute to be unveiled on Clapham Common
10:57am Friday 14th September 2012 in News
A new tribute to murdered Jody Dobrowski is to be unveiled on Clapham Common following the seventh anniversary of his death.
The 24-year-old bar manager was killed in 2005 in a homophobic attack so horrific that he could only be identified by his fingerprints.
A wildflower garden on Clapham Common was originally set up in Mr Dobrowski's memory but in recent months has become overgrown and forgotten.
However, the garden is to be replanted and a new bench installed.
A fundraising event will be held on October 7 at the Two Brewers pub, in Clapham High Street, to pay for the bench.
It is hoped the event will not only raise money but also raise awareness of hate crimes, how to report them and the importance of vigilance.
There were 1,306 reported homophobic crimes in 2005 in the UK and Mr Dobrowski’s murder was one of many attacks that occurred on the common that year.
