Heavy rain causes flat floodings
Last night's heavy rain led to a number of basement flats becoming flooded, forcing people out of their homes.
Five properties had to be evacuated after a pumping station and sewers stopped working in Battersea at about 10pm.
A couple living in Meyrick Road were left with half a meter of water and sewage in their home following the heavy rain.
Firefighters used a pump to clear it out, with sewage water coming up through the toilet system.
The couple are believed to have been put up in a hotel in Thames Water following the incident.
Other buildings were affected in Falcon Road and Lavender Hill, including a pizza takeaway.
A spokesperson for the fire brigade said: "According to water pumping attendants a pumping station was not working - with all of the rain there was a lot of basement floodings.
"None of the sewers were working properly."
