The annual Multi-faith Peace Ceremony outside Tooting Broadway Station
Christians, Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists pray together during a peace ceremony held last night.
The annual Multi-faith Peace Ceremony, organised by the Balham and Tooting Community Association (BATCA), took place outside Tooting Broadway Station.
It is the sixth ceremony of its kind, with a large crowd of different ages joining forces to celebrate the event.
Reverend Dr Andrew Davey, vicar of Holy Trinity and St Augustine’s Churches, led the ceremony, which coincided with the ending of London Peace Week.
MP Sadiq Khan, the deputy mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Nicola Nardelli, and Councillor Sheila Boswell spoke of working together for peace, and the strength of the community in Tooting.
Faith leaders said prayers in their own traditions and languages expressing their wishes for peace, while a young Muslim recited from the Koran.
Nasir Qureshi, headteacher of Al Risalah Muslim secondary school, and leader of charity STORM, Marie Hanson, also spoke during the event.
