A car driven by an elderly woman has crashed through the window of a children's shoe shop.

The 83-year-old woman was driving along Upper Richmond Road, Putney, when her car veered into the window of Pied Piper at about 12.30pm.

Amazingly, no one was in the shop at the time or on the pavement outside. The driver was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

The whole of the window of the children's shoe shop was destroyed and the shop has been forced to close.

Monty Monty, 50, owner of the shop said: "We all jumped as if it was a bomb or something. It was very loud.

"No people were passing and nobody was in the shop. The glass is broken and the police have made sure it is safe."

He added he was worried about the knock-on effects on his business.
