A disabled man faces a daily struggle to walk his daughter to school because of shoddy paving work.

Martyn Ellacott, of Godley Road, Earlsfield, said cracks in the pavement and lose slabs make walking around the area a nightmare.

Mr Ellacott, who is vice-chairman of Wandsworth Access Association, has been walking his daughter to Burntwood School, in Burntwood Lane, since she began in September.

He first contacted the council about three months ago after experiencing difficulties and they sent an inspector.

But he said nothing has been done since, with the council blaming lack of funds to improve the roads.

He said: "I have to walk my daughter that way every day, I find it very difficult because of my disability.

"When the winter gets bad its going to be really dangerous because it will be under the snow - if I stand on something that is going to move.

"I want to see it sorted before winter comes in."

A spokesperson for the council said: "Whilst the council carries out safety inspections of all borough pavements at least twice a year, it is always useful to receive reports about any paving defect.

"Whenever we receive these reports we will always inspect the site and arrange for any necessary repairs. People can contact us via our website or by calling 8871 6708."

My mum also lives in Godley Road nearer Brightman Rd. it's awful it looks as though the roots of the trees are pushing the pavement up. This is very dangerous you have to walk in the road to get around it. Wandsworth Council needs to do something before someone has a terrible accident!!!

My road and pavement have not been properly repaired since I moved here in 1975. We are unable to get improvements because roads and pavements which have been replaced more recently have been done so badly they need to be done again. We have partially sighted residents and the only way we got one footpath repaired was when a neighbour threatened to sue after she had fallen on her nose.

According to an email I received, the Council only deem a repair to be "urgent" if someone has incurred an injury. So Mr Ellacott needs to get one of his neighbours to fall and break a leg.

This is what we get for "the lowest Council Tax in the country" - an uncaring Council.
