Children's centre opened by MP and BBC sports editor
A redeveloped children's centre was opened yesterday by MP Sadiq Khan and BBC sports editor David Bond.
The Sure Start centre, located on the top floor of Smallwood Primary School, in Smallwood Road, Tooting, has been expanded from one classroom into a state-of-the-art development.
More than 700 children are registered to attend the centre, which was refurbished from an old Victorian building with the support of Wandsworth Council.
It aims to provide social and educational support to families with children under five years old.
Sessions include parenting groups, family support, help with speech and language as well as health provision.
During the opening event year five and six children performed a song, while there was the cutting of a cake.
Mr Khan said: "It was a pleasure to be asked to attend the grand opening of Smallwood Children’s Centre.
"The centre is providing vital support to children and families in our area and it was great to see so many families there to celebrate the opening.
"The staff are doing a fantastic job at making their services accessible to the community and have created both a diverse and inclusive environment."
