Parents and childrens are set to protest next week against decisions made by Wandsworth Council over youth services and school playing fields.

The demonstration will take place outside the town hall, on Wednesday October 17, prior to the monthly full council meeting where a raft of controversial issues are due to be discussed.

Councillors will debate several key issues including the sale of Elliott School grounds to fund the new ARK Academy, the closure of three adventure playgrounds, the shutting down of youth clubs and the cutting of council funding for lollipop men and women.

A stand-off between builders and parents took place earlier this month after bulldozers began to destroy equipment at the York Gardens Adventure Playground.

Members of the Battersea and Wandsworth TUC are set to attend the protest which will start at 6.30pm prior to the 7.30pm meeting.

A spokesman for the Wandsworth and Battersea TUC urged people to come and support the demonstration.

She said: "Please join us in telling this council they are wrong, give our children a voice."
