A Battersea shopkeeper was caught selling cigarettes to children for a second time, just days after being fined for the same offence.

Sheikh Imran, of Imran's News in Battersea Park Road, was fined £315 and ordered to pay £500 in court costs by magistrates in Richmond for selling cigarettes to a 15-year-old girl.

If Mr Imran commits further offences he could be banned from stocking or selling tobacco products.

The council's trading standards spokesman Councillor Jonathan Cook said: "Mr Imran's flagrant disregard for the law must be condemned."

"Any trader we catch selling these kinds of products to children should be under no illusion about the legal sanctions they will face."
