Prince Edward visited Surbiton yesterday to mark the centenary of Claremont Road's restored Coronation Clock Tower.
The Earl of Wessex was welcomed by schoolchildren, residents and local businesses when he arrived to unveil a plaque marking the centenary.
Before revealing the plaque, which in 1908 was dedicated to the Prince's ancestor King Edward VII, the Earl received a presentation from Anais Simo a seven-year-old pupil at Tolworth Infants School.
Kingston Council and The Friends of the Coronation Clock Tower organised a celebration with dancing, music and performance from nine school and professional performers in nearby Claremont Gardens.
The Friends of the Coronation Clock Tower was formed in 2007 by local residents, businesses and organisations, to help raise the £110,000 required for restoration and to fund on-going maintenance.
