Man suffers burns in explosion in Merton high street

Wimbledon road closed amid explosion fears
A man has suffered burns in an explosion at a Wimbledon chemists.
The incident took place at the Abbey pharmacy in Abbey Parade, Merton High Street this lunchtime.
Fire crews and ambulance service staff – including a hazardous area response team – were sent to the location.
A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: “We sent an ambulance crew, two single responders and a duty officers, as well as members of our hazardous area response team.
“Our staff treated one patient, a man in his 40s, who was suffering from minor burns to his hands and his face. He was taken to St George’s Hospital as a priority.”
Merton High Street was closed in both directions following the explosion, but has now been re-opened. The shop remains cordoned off.
