Wimbledon Guardian's DROP THE DONS petition hits 1,000 signatures

This weekend saw our campaign for football justice reached a new milestone yesterday when 1,000 supporters from across the UK and overseas signed the petition.

Barely a week since since the launch of the Wimbledon Guardian’s campaign for MK Dons FC to drop the Dons from their name, the campaign has attracted wider coverage from television and newspapers.

Former Wimbledon FC star defender, Chris Perry has backed the campaign, as well as AFC Wimbledon's former manager, Dave Anderson.

The Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association has also thrown its weight behind the campaign, calling for MK Dons FC to respect the fact that Wimbledon have a new team to be proud of.

The first signature was by Colin Rance, from Mitcham, when the petition launched on Thursday, January 12. The 1,000th signature was by Helen Wood from Southfields, on Friday, January 20.

The move was a financial decision with few alternatives apart from extinction which those who owned the club were entitled to avoid, and, whilst it broke the heart of all the genuine Wimbledon supporters, we were such a small number that even in the glory days, the first division away crowds paid our way. After relegation the Club was doomed. On the night of our Cup win a woman from Wimbledon asked what all the commotion was about. I said "we have won the Cup". She replied "what at?". It is time to give those at MK a rest from the spite and bury the hatchet which dropping the "Dons" may actually assist.
