Sitting on a bench in the park or simply just walking on the pavement and making an unpleasant discovery. Sounds familiar?
You’d might expect the plethora of chewing gum, the odd food packaging on the pavement, and other relatively common pieces of litter. However, would you expect carpet, televisions and possibly a mattress? The ‘leaving-rubbish-on-the-sidewalk’- otherwise known as fly tipping- phenomenon is very much present in our borough. Fly tipping refers to the illegal deposition of waste in an unlicensed area. However, even in areas which allow rubbish collection- for instances bin disposal- seem to develop into mini mountains of mess.
The clutter is bold and clear. General feedback ranged from, ‘unattractive’ to members of the public seeing no problem. Although these pictures may seem shocking (or are they a familiar sight?); however, the exhibits shown are just tame cases. The carpet and television have been present from Monday 25th January (2010), and have since been moved. Its original state consisted of being sprawled across the ground. Thankfully some decent soul placed the items on the sidewalk before they caused injury. Currently, bulky items such as furniture requires a fee in order for the council to dispose of them. Surely it is a small price to pay for a better and more charismatic environment?
This article is literally about a load of rubbish, however hopefully it highlights some of the problems in our local area so they can be improved.
