THE children of Mosaic Jewish Primary School Roehampton, hosted a very special tea party on Monday 28th November, to mark this year's Mitzvah Day*.

Based on the principle of giving our time, not our money, to make a difference to the community around us, the children welcomed guests from Nightingale House (a Jewish care home) and members of the Holy Trinity Roehampton Community for afternoon tea.

Mosaic Jewish Primary School's Year 1 (5 & 6 years old) children, took orders for teas and coffees and served a wonderful selection of cakes and biscuits.

Both the children and their visitors enjoyed an afternoon of board games, lots of craft activities and some very animated conversation.

"What a very special afternoon for everyone," commented head teacher Kate Baum. "Mitzvah Day gives us a unique opportunity to reach all generations and community to bring together a group of people from a range of faiths and age groups to share not only a cup of tea and a slice of cake but so much more."

"It was so much fun serving tea and playing games with our guests," said Alma, Year 1. "I really enjoyed hearing about what it was like when our new friends were at school."

* A Mitzvah is a commandment in Jewish law. However, it is often used to mean a good deed or an act of kindness and that is the basis for Mitzvah Day.

It is an integral part of Jewish life. On Mitzvah Day, we give our time, not our money, to make a difference to the community around us. We introduce people to social action, to their neighbours and to local charities setting up projects which address real needs.

Jewish led, we bring people of other faiths and those without a faith, to volunteer side by side, to experience fun and laughter, with our community and get to know each other. http://mitzvahday.org.uk
