A social club for elderly residents in Wandsworth has invited local schoolchildren to perform their music pieces ahead of their exams.

The ‘Open House’ weekly social club, based on the Ackroydon estate in Southfields, invited students from St Michaels Primary School to practice their exam pieces to the delight of the elderly audience.

Open House Founder Rich Boothroyd said ‘Our guests really enjoy listening to the children play their instruments and these performance practise sessions have become a highlight on our Open House calendar.’

‘Open House is all about socialisation, stimulation and smiles. This event is great as it delivers on all those fronts – intergenerational conversation, stimulating music and lots of happy faces!’

‘We’d love to involve more schools and more students, its such a win-win for everyone’ St Michaels school Head of music, Sharon Lloyd, said ‘Performance practice in a different environment with a different audience is so important for young musicians ahead of their first exams.

We are delighted that our students have this opportunity which is a benefit to them as well as the elderly community at the club.’

‘Open House’ club for senior residents runs every week from 10.30 to 12.00 in the Acroydon Hall in Southfields. The club is staffed by volunteers from the local community and entry is just £1. The club is open to everyone over 65. For more information please email openhousewandworth@gmail.com
