The NHS Trust that runs St George's and Queen Mary's hospitals fires the starting gun tomorrow for the first governor elections since becoming a Foundation Trust in February 2015.
This is a critical time for the Trust which was rated inadequate by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in November last year. A new leadership team has been appointed, chaired by Sir David Henshaw.
At the time, he said "Many of these challenges are due to very poor board and senior management decisions in the past and a failure to tackle the big challenges head on" [BBC].
Nigel Brindley, one of the candidates said "This is a crucial time for these elections. New governors with financial and operational experience from both the health sector and wider industry could support the turnaround of the Trust as well as fighting to safeguard patient interests".
