Pupils from Saint Cecilia’s CofE Secondary School and St Michael’s Primary School in Southfields, took to the streets on 30th March for a special Easter Parade led by two adorable donkeys, Charlie and Danny.

The parade, organised by The Revd. Annie Kurk, Chaplain at Saint Cecilia’s, started at St Michael’s, Granville Road with a story in the field for their Reception classes and continued along to Sutherland Grove where Saint Cecilia’s is located. St Michael’s children from Year 1 to Year 6, joined by their parents went along the route in two tranches, together with Saint Cecilia’s Year 7 pupils, singing songs and waving palm leaves, re-enacting Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

As the parade arrived at Saint Cecilia’s pupils went first to the Chapel where they listened to the Easter story and what happened on the first Palm Sunday. Visiting parents were treated to coffee and pastries on the lawn area before joining in with their children to experience the Stations of the Cross and of course more singing.  The procession created a real ‘buzz’ in the community and gave the children an opportunity to learn more about the true meaning of Easter.

The Revd Annie Kurk, Chaplain at Saint Cecilia’s said, “We somehow picked the hottest day of the year so far for our joint Easter Parade with St Michael’s Primary School – God is good!  Every single pupil at St Michael’s came to Saint Cecilia’s for the Easter story, four interactive stations of the cross and to top it all, led from school to school by two donkeys! Parents and staff of both schools enjoyed a new way of celebrating the Easter story.”
