The Royal Philharmonic Society’s Music Awards (R.P.S) have shortlisted the World Heart Beat Music Academy, located in Wandsworth, for the ‘Learning & Participation’ Award. They have highlighted the academy’s unique approach of bringing ‘the myriad of the world’s cultures together through music.’

On May 9th a ceremony, hosted by BBC Radio 3, will announce the winners at The Brewery in London. Acclaimed, award-winning pianist, Stephen Hough, will be presenting the awards. A special R.P.S Music Awards programme will be broadcast later on BBC Radio 3 at 19:30 on Sunday 14th May 2017.

Sahana Gero, Founder & Artistic director of the World Heart Beat Academy, comments on this significant milestone:
“If you believe and invest in a child, then greatness can be achieved. We take a holistic approach to teaching music. World Heart Beat is like a family, ensuring doors keep opening, and opportunities are real for our young musicians. We are so honoured that our academy has been recognised for this prestigious award, and we want to thank everyone in our community that contributes to this musical energy.”

The academy aims to contribute to the community. 49% of the students’ classes, whose families are on low-income, are funded by the charity. Our students regularly achieve success and have gained places at top music institutions, including scholarships to Berklee College of Music (USA), and the Royal Academy of Music. Since starting, high quality, consistent educational results have led to international recognition; gaining world class artists as mentors for the young students.
