St John Bosco College, the 11-18, Roman Catholic Secondary School in the heart of Battersea, was inspected by Ofsted last month (May 2017) and was judged as ‘good’ by the inspection team. The school has welcomed the positive report which was published this week on the Ofsted website.

The inspectors noted that “St John Bosco is a Catholic college, but admits pupils from a wide range of faiths and cultures and these differences are embraced and celebrated”.  They also commented that the school has “established an ethos based on Saint John Bosco’s educational philosophy of learning through ‘reason, religion and kindness’”.

In their report the inspectors commented on how “staff know each and every pupil and relationships are consequently highly positive” and that “pupils mix well in this harmonious environment and benefit from personalised support and guidance.”

It was also noted that pupils “felt safe and happy at school. They socialise well together, respect each other’s differences and are polite to visitors. They know whom they could turn to should they have a concern and are confident that it would be dealt with quickly and effectively.”

Staff and pupils at the school were delighted with the report. Headteacher Paul Dunne said “We are very pleased that the report has recognised the distinctive ethos of the school in which we aim to follow St John Bosco’s maxim that every child must know that they are loved” and went on to say “This is an exciting time for the school. The number of children joining us in September has risen by 50% and we are working hard to grow the school and to achieve an ‘outstanding’ judgement next time Ofsted visit!”
