Greenleaf slams opposition's style of play after controversial defeat

Streatham-Croydon coach Jeff Greenleaf cannot wait for the Surrey Divsion Two return fixture at Chipstead, and not because he has good friends in the team.

After his charges’ 16-11 defeat on Saturday, Greenleaf slammed the Chipstead tactics that saw them win a disputed penalty and claim the controversial win.

The result leaves Streatham in third place, five points behind leaders Chipstead.

And life does not get any simpler for Greenleaf’s men as they travel to fourth-placed Battersea Ironsides this weekend.

Greenleaf said: “We played well against Chipstead, we played all the rugby. It seemed that their plan was to not play rugby, rather push the laws of the game to very limit. At times their tactices riled our side and it became a feisty game.

“Unfortunately the referee was not strong enough and Chipstead made the most of it. They won a penalty that was rightly ours and that kick put them in the lead when we had been 11-10 up with not long to go.

“It was disappointing because we were the side trying to play rugby, whereas they had no intention of doing that.”

Wes Baron’s try and two penalties from Nigel Rudge accounted for Streatham’s points.
