London Scottish have confirmed former France and Wasps flanker Serge Betsen will be joining their coaching staff in a major overhaul of the club's coaching structure.

The Exiles, who secured a much needed 23-18 home win over Moseley on Saturday, have struggled since forwards and defence coach Alex Codling resigned after the opening game of the campaign.

Former London Irish and Leicester Tigers hooker James Buckland has been confirmed as Codling's full-time replacement, while Betsen will be taking two sessions a week and Harlequins academy coach Jim Evans has also been brought in to address the club's failing line-out.

The club have switched all evening training sessions to daylight hours as they move towards a more full-time set-up, meaning a host of players - currently on part-time contracts - will need to adapt to the new regime or face being shipped out on loan.

Directro of rugby Simon Amor said: "The positives of the new set-up are very clear.  We'll have more time to spend with the players to work on their core skills, decision-making and general development.

"While we won't be a fully professional set-up, the decision shows the club's progress, ambitions and continual focus on development.

"I was incredibly proud of the way our players committed to what were sometimes difficult training conditions, facilities and challenges previously.

" I've also been delighted how a number of our part-time players have already adapted their current work to enable them to make some of our daytime sessions. It shows wonderful commitment from them.

"The training change also ties in nicely with our revamped coaching set-up and to get three such highly renowned coaches onboard, who are young in coaching years but offer us a huge amount of potential and knowledge, is a big boost for the club.

"The key thing for us over the next few weeks is to gel as coaches to help create the right environment."

The club is employing a part-time strength and conditioning consultant Ian Taplin to support Simon Elkinson.
