Brentford striker Clayton Donaldson has been given a new lease of life by a slim-legged 20-year-old Italian.

The 28-year-old struck Saturday’s late winner at Notts County, before notching his side’s decisive third goal in last Tuesday’s FA Cup win over Bradford City.

The pair of strikes took his season’s tally to 15 goals prior to Saturday's clash with Stevenage – with seven of those coming in his past six appearances.

Fulham loan star Marcello Trotta has featured alongside Donaldson in the past four of those matches and boss Uwe Rosler reckons the tonic given to the former Crewe Alexandra man’s game by the youngster’s arrival has been just what the doctor ordered.

“I think Clayton has at the moment a very good run. It suits him that he plays off Marcello a little bit to the side at the moment,” he said.

“The pressure is off Clayton  and he is finding good positions.

“We crossed a number of balls and I was hoping to see him at the back post more often.

“You don’t find many strikers who go in for that kind of ball, with a concussion waiting for you, and I’m delighted for him.”
