Sweeney switches from Bury to become Ardley's first permanent signing

AFC Wimbledon have signed Peter Sweeney from Bury on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old midfielder comes with a vast experience of almost 250 league appearances at seven clubs.

Sweeney, who played for Millwall in the FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United in 2004, has also turned out for Stoke City, Grimsby Town and Bury - scoring 16 career goals.

Dons boss Neal Ardley said: "We were looking at signing him in November on loan, but we had a lot of players on loan then. 

"We have kept tabs on him since then and Bury manager Kevin Blackwell has been a big help in making this happen."

Sweeney is available for selection for this weekend's visit of Wycombe Wanderers.

Although not a prolific goalscrorer, Sweeney won the Bury goal of the season last year for his strike against Walsall.
