Rosler: Bees have quality to plug Bidwell void against Chelsea

Jake Bidwell may be getting an enforced break this weekend, but Brentford boss Uwe Rosler is sure he has the quality to plug the gap.

The 19-year-old full back, described as distraught in the dressing room at the final whistle, saw red in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Leyton Orient for two bookable offences that means he will miss Sunday’s fourth round FA Cup clash with Chelsea.

Scott Barron is in line to replace him, but Rosler has hinted centre back Tony Craig and Lee Hodson could be in line to do the job for the biggest game of Brentford’s season thus far.

“Jake has been fantastic for us. You cannot be harsh on him, but on the other hand he has to learn,” he said.

“He needs a bit of a break. He gets that now. He made some mistakes against Tranmere and Leyton, but he is 19 years old and allowed to make mistakes.

“We have two players who can play left back  and even Lee Hodson can play also.”

Hodson’s performance against Tranmere led to glowing praise from his manager, putting him and Shaleum Logan neck-and-neck for the right back shirt.

“There is no distance between Lee and Shaleum any more, they are equal.” said Rosler.

Goals from Paul Hayes and Clayton Donaldson had put Brentford 2-1 up on Tuesday, but Bidwell’s sending off – early in the second half – left them down to 10-men for more than  half an hour before Orient’s late leveller.

A fact that Rosler insisted tiredness would not be a factor come Sunday.

“The players are fit and can look forward to the occasion. We are just gutted to have not got three points against Orient," he said.
