Epsom & Ewell moved to within a point of the leaders of the Combined Counties Premier Division thanks to a 2-1 win at Bedfont Sports.

It was an emotional day for the Salts when midfielder Alex McGregor, returning
to the team for the first team since his father, and long-standing Salts fan, passed away, scored the late winner with an excellent free-kick.

Mark Jarman also got on the scoresheet, levelling an a second half Sports’ opener that had threatened to end the Salts eight-game unbeaten run in the league.

Despite keeping the pressure on leaders Egham Town, the Salts have played two games more.

On Tuesday night, Kyle Hough got on the scoresheet twice in a 2-0 Challenge Cup win over Guernsey.

The Salts’s campaign continues at home to Dorking on February 2, and away to Chessington & Hook on February 5.
