Brentford got back to winning ways in the league with a 2-0 win over Stevenage at Griffin Park on Tuesday night.

Two quality goals from Tom Adeyemi and Marcello Trotta towards the end of each half were enough to keep the Bees tucked in 6th place in the league table, four points off the top.

It took a while for Brentford to threaten, with Paul Hayes going close when he shot wide from 12 yards, while a couple of minutes later Adam Forshaw's near-post corner was headed wide by Tony Craig.

Another corner from Forshaw was then half cleared before Jonathan Douglas' shot was saved by Chris Day.

After Harry Forrester and Jake Bidwell worked a short corner routine the ball was cleared to the edge of the box, from where Harlee Dean blasted over.

Sam Hoskins broke quickly down the left for the visitors and his shot flew across the face of goal.

Hayes wasted a great chance to give his side the lead five minutes before the break when presented with a one-on-one chance from which he shot wide of the right hand post.

The Bees made the breakthrough just before the break when Adeyemi picked up the ball following a corner on the left and firing a great shot into the net.

Both sides had chances during the early stages of the second half, with Forshaw's speculative 25 yard shot flying wide of the post.

For Stevenage, Luke Freeman shot wide before Filipe Morais ran across the edge of the box before shooting high over the bar.

With four minutes left Trotta sealed the win when Sam Saunders was tackled on the edge of the box and the on-loan striker pounced to curl the ball past Day.

Trotta almost added another after Toumani Diagouraga and Clayton Donaldson combined down the right and crossed to the near post, where the striker was lurking, but the defence scrambled it clear.
