Worcester Park’s GB international Phil Wicks admitted he was disappointed at not qualifying for the World Championships at the Virgin London marathon on Sunday.
The 28-year-old clocked two hours, 19 minutes, seven seconds to finish 15th, well below his best of 2.15:38.
It meant his pursuit of the 2:14:30 world marker did not go according to plan.
He said: “I set out at 66.3, which was the aim through halfway, but I ended up going through in 67. Then I just lost a lot of time, particularly in the last 10k.”
Wicks could not keep up with Derek Hawkins, who was the first British man home in 13th place, clocking 2:16.50.
Wicks said: “We were together at six miles when Derek pushed it on. It was a tough race but another one I learned things from.
“I just have to refocus on qualifying for next year’s Commonwealth Games or European Championships.”
Wicks next races in the Bupa 10,000 on May 27.
