Ollie Lindsay-Hague is hopeful of featuring in Twickenham’s World Club 7s, after a stunning performance for Harlequins at the JP Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s was hampered by a knee injury.

The winger helped Quins to victory against London Wasps in their opening match at Allianz Park on Saturday night, before running in two tries in a 42-19 demolition of London Irish.

The 22-year-old was prevented from featuring in the group’s final clash, against hosts Saracens, but his Quins teammates came out on top (24-21) to head to Friday’s finals at The Rec as group winners.

Lindsay-Hague, who has talked about a full-time switch to 7s in the past, is excited by the game’s rapid growth and would love to feature at Twickenham later this month against teams from South Africa, Australia, Argentina, Russia and the USA.

“I can’t wait,” he said. “It really shows how big 7s is getting with the World Series and all the best teams from around the world especially in the southern hemisphere. I can’t wait to play those teams – I think I might be involved.

“It’s good fun, I’m playing a bit. Sevens is such a fun game and it’s good to get a run out there. We were a bit rusty in some parts but hopefully as the tournament goes on we’ll get better and better.

“I’m sure it’s going to grow more. With the Olympics going on I think 7s is going to push on massively now and it will be interesting to see what it brings.”

Before the World Club 7s however, there is the small matter of the JP Morgan finals and Lindsay-Hague will be keen to shake off his injury in time for Friday’s finals.

Quins fielded an inexperienced and exciting side on Saturday, including the likes of speedster Jordan Burns and player of the round Charlie Walker, who scored a hat-trick of tries against Saracens.

But, while the winger would love to pick up some 7s silverware, he is excited to push for more XVs game time, after a badly-timed injury last season.

Lindsay-Hague said: “I was really frustrated after getting injured.

“It was not an opportune moment when things were going really well for me but that’s rugby and I’m used to it. I put my head down and got on with it.

“I got through injuries this year and hopefully I’m going to push on for the XVs which is my main aim, but it’s great to get a start going for the season to come and it lets you brush all the cobwebs off.”
