Herne Hill Harriers' junior athletes claimed two gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the London Youth Games cross-country on Saturday.

Ursula Hall was victorious in the U11s girls' race and Alex Brown finished first in the U13s event at Parliament Hill.

Further medallists were Eimear Griffin (runner-up to Brown), Katy-Ann McDonald (second in the U15G race), Ed Olsen (silver medallist in the U17M event) and Oscar Millard (third in the U13B race).

The stand out performer was undoubtedly Brown, who led Griffin by 24 seconds at the finish.

Kayah Wilks (fifth), Lucy Olsen (seventh) and Clarissa Nicholls (ninth) also finished in the top 10, cementing Herne Hill's formidable reputation in the U13G category.

McDonald had to settle for second in a high-quality field after a battle with Sabrina Sinha.

McDonald had breached a 10m gap on her rival as the pair entered the final 400m, only to be out-kicked on the finishing straight.

Kate Brown made it a successful weekend for the Brown family as she finished eighth, just 12 seconds shy of the fourth-placed runner.

Ed Olsen, who met GB marathoner Scott Overall after his race, was also in fine form, splitting the Asgodom brothers to finish second in the U17M competition.

There were further strong runs by Abel Tesfalem (seventh) and Paul Burgess (eighth) in the U15B race.

The senior men and women were also racing at Parliament Hill in the London Championships, with teams finishing sixth and 15th respectively.

Simon Coombes led the men's team charge, finishing 14th, with Tim Elsey 24th.

Mohammed Ismail, John Tayleur and Jonny Muir exchanged positions throughout the race, with Ismail (40th) and Tayleur (46th), pipping Muir (47th) to fill the counting four places.

Having raced three sub-three hour marathons in consecutive weekends, Jonathan Ratcliffe also raced well to place 87th.

Cleo Bartholomew was first Harrier across the line in the women's team in 72nd, closely followed by Hayley Cook (79th) and Rebecca Barrow (88th), with Sarah Allen in 121st.

Herne Hill's younger contingent were also in action at a series of open cross-country races at Camberley on Sunday.

Individual winners were Christo Clifton (U9B), Kayah Wilks (U13G), Mohammed Ali (U13B), Ed Olsen (U17M) and John Tayleur (U20M).

Harriers also won the U13 boys' and girls' team races, and were second in the U11G team race.

Away from cross country, Robin Sanderson was 42nd in the Brampton to Carlisle 10-mile road race, clocking 59 minutes 13 seconds.
