Walton & Hersham may have lost 2-1 at Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday, but it was not enough to disuade chairman Alan Smith from appointing caretaker boss James Cameron as the club’s new permanent manager today.

Cameron, who places Steve Baker, has overseen two wins, one draw and two defeats during his spell in temporary charge, which sees his Swans 10th in the Ryman Division One South table after the weekend's defeat.

Will Turl gave Walton the lead at Imperial Fields on Saturday, only for two second half goals in three minutes from Jordan Cheadle and Bach Alimi to end hopes of a win.

But the former Stompond Lane reserve team manager, who has named Steve Honey and Martin Beard in his backroom team, insisted he is up to the challenge.

“I am ambitious and not fazed by this challenge at all," he said.

“I hope to reward the chairman’s faith by kicking this club on, and I will try my level best to put a smile back on some long suffering supporters’ faces.

“We have had a reasonable start, although Tooting was a real kick in the teeth, but I have faith that we can bounce straight back.”
