Victory over Doncaster Knights this weekend would lift Rosslyn Park to the top of National League One, but head coach Alex Codling is not feeling the pressure.

Park are up to second place, just two points behind the Knights, on the back of a thrilling 38-31 win over neighbourhood rivals Esher on Saturday.

Victory came courtesy of tries from Dave Vincent (two), Charlie Broughton, Ed Lewis-Pratt, Richard Boyle and Joseph Ajuwa, and five Scott Sneddon conversions and a penalty.

However, it was not all good news for Park after Boyle hobbled off with a hamstring injury – he could be out for up to three weeks.

Codling said: “The Esher game was a great advert for National League One rugby. Both side were playing attacking rugby.

“We were excellent for 40 minutes and were a little disappointed to come in at half-time and not be further ahead.

“Esher threw everything at us after the break, but this win will breed confidence in the side and hopefully help to build some momentum for us.”

Doncaster Knights are the only full-time side in the league, having been relegated from the Championship last term, and they have been beaten only twice so far this season.

However, Codling remains cool and calm about their chances.

“They had a blip recently, everyone expects them to go up, but that doesn’t mean we are taking our own eye off the ball and expecting an easier game,” Codling said.

“We know we’re the underdogs, and we’re going there with nothing to lose.

“We know it is going to be tough trip up there but there is absolutely no pressure on us.”

Codling added: “The players want to test themselves against the top sides away from home and it is another great opportunity for them to do that without any nerves.”
