Wimbledon Hockey Club player/coach Ben Marsden said last weekend’s shock win at Beeston will count for nothing if they do not beat Cannock on Saturday.

Two goals from Johnny Kinder and an Ali Brogdon strike meant the Dons became the first team to beat Beeston in the EHL Premier Division this season.

They host Cannock, who are struggling in the bottom half of the table, on Sunday in the final game before the Christmas break and the indoor season.

Marsden said: “It was one of those games where you hope to perform well, and instead we put in an excellent team performance to win 3-2.

“The result has made a lot of people sit up and take note of Wimbledon.”

He added: “It was a decent achievement, but we have to turn our attention to Cannock and focus on that. Sometimes training can be a little flat after such big games, but we have a good mixture of youth and experience here.

“If we lose against Cannock, then all the hard work at Beeston would be for nothing.

“We also need to keep the momentum going when the indoor league starts.”
