Rosslyn Park's Codling is ready to tackle the buzz surrounding Wharefdale
Saturday’s win over Old Albanians takes Rosslyn Park within three points of League leaders Doncaster, who lost to Fylde - and Doncaster have yet to visit Priory Lane.
Defeats for most of Park’s rivals gives them a seven-point cushion in second place over third-placed Fylde, who also have yet to go to Roehampton.
However, Park head coach Alex Codling is not a man who dwells on league places, holding to the view that if he can get his team playing well enough the results will come.
After Saturday’s match he said: "I was delighted with the win and the performance yesterday.
"After a slow start to the game, our first try was a fantastic team try will the ball going through several sets of hands before Dave Vincent getting on the end of an excellent kick from Scott Sneddon. This set the tone for the rest of the game."
He added: "I thought it was a very open and entertaining game with both sides looking to move the ball at every opportunity.
“We now head up to Wharfedale with a real buzz among the group but are not underestimating the challenge that awaits.
"Wharfedale are one of the form teams in the league so we know that we will have to be right on our game."
There is no doubt that Park face another stern examination travelling to North Yorkshire.
Wharfedale lie fifth place in the table and their picturesque Threshfields home has already seen them defeat Doncaster, Coventry and Esher.
Last Saturday they completed a double over Esher with a stunning 28-26 away win.
Add into the mix that last season Park visited Wharfedale bringing with them a long unbeaten record.
But defeat by the ‘Green Machine’ set off a run of away defeats that effectively scuppered Park’s title chances. They will be keen not to allow history to repeat itself.
Codling will be hoping for favourable reports on the injury to flanker Harry Broadbent, who was stretchered off after being knocked out on Saturday.
The obvious replacement, the ever-popular Harry Rowland, is recovering from an operation and is not available.
