Three Croydon Harriers represented Surrey at the weekend’s National Inter-County Cross-Country Championships in Birmingham.

Stevie Lawrence was 88th in the U17 women’s race out of 260 finishers, and David White, a late addition to the squad, battled to 208th out of 276 in the showpiece men’s event.

In the junior men’s race, Harvey White returned from injury unscathed in 144th out of 180.

At the finale of the Downs cross-country league at Epsom, Omar Harhara took the overall title for the U15 boys edging out training partner Kieron Connor who was a close runner-up.

Jordan O’Dongo (fourth, U13 boys), Faith Chen (sixth, U11 girls), Caitlin Dixon (fifth, U13 girls) and Niamh Yehekzel (eighth, U15 girls) also competed to ensure they finished in the overall standings.

Josie Kavanagh (11th, U15 girls) and Kyra Sethna-MacIntosh (14th, U11 girls) were also in action.

Peter Chambers continued his road back from injury, with a 16th place finish at Bushy Park in the London Colleges league. 

In parkrun action, Jake English was third at Crystal Palace in a new lifetime best of 17 minutes 32 seconds, and Julie Williams was second woman home at Greenwich Park.

A quartet of Harriers took to the road, with three tackling half marathons.

David Chambers recorded a personal best of 83:12 to finish 55th out of over 4,000 runners at the Surrey half-marathon in Guildford.

David Brown ran his quickest time for the distance in two years, crossing the line at Tunbridge Wells in 83:45.

Also finishing under the 90-minute barrier was Glenn Barden who was 34th at the Lydd Half Marathon in 89:08.

At the Finchley 20-mile road race, Neil Aikman was 153rd in 2.26:46 in a field of 500 finishers.

In indoor athletics competition, Tony Richards scooped gold in the M60 shot putt at the British Masters championships at Lee Valley with a 11.60m effort.

Also in action were Linda Oxlade (W60 triple jump, third), Andy Del Nevo (M45 3,000m, fifth), Mandy Rowley-Jones and Colin Oxlade (M55 1,500m, fifth).

Paul Ogun was the club’s sole entrant at the Crystal Palace indoor meeting in the 60m, notching a season’s best of 7.19secs.
