Walton Athletics Club’s Sawa Yamakawa knows what he needs to work on to become a champion after collecting U15 boys pentathlon silver at the English Indoor Combined Events Championships on Sunday.
Yamakawa set three personal bests as he won the 60m hurdles and long jump disciplines and finished third in the shot to lead the way after three of the five events.
But seventh place in the high jump and sixth in the 800m – the last two events – cost the teenager gold as he finished 397 points behind winner Robert Runciman.
