Scunthorpe United recall Collins, leaving Ardley to deliver a rallying call to his troops
AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley has challenged his squad to deal with the loss of Michael Collins in their remaining League Two matches.
The 27-year-old midfielder’s contract with the club has been cancelled as his parent club, Scunthorpe United, have recalled him with immediate effect.
Collins, who joined on-loan in February until the end of the season in a deal which included a call-back option, started nine times for the Dons in a period where the side picked up a crucial 10 points.
Wimbledon now sit 17th, eight points clear of the relegation zone with six games remaining.
“Michael did a great job for us,” Ardley told the club website. “It was a pleasure to work with.
“He got stronger the more games that he had here and I hope he plays matches at Scunthorpe.
“We wish him all the best, but now it’s an opportunity for other players to prove their worth.”
