Twickenham’s secretary of senior rugby Andy Rees does not know a lot about his side’s opponents this weekend, but what he does know is only a good sign.

The Parkfields outfit had to settle for the runners-up play-off berth in London Two North West last weekend as Old Priorians were crowned champions after beating HAC.

Standing between Twickenham and promotion to London’s top league tomorrow is Saffron Walden – runners up of London Two North East.

Rees said: “Saffron Walden played Old Priorians in the cup earlier this season and were beaten by 50-odd points.

“We’re both second in our respective leagues, but we’ve scored more points and more bonus points.

“We have the advantage of being at home, so if we aren’t confident now we’ll never be confident and if we lose, then we only have ourselves to blame.”

He added: “The pitch is in immaculate condition and we’re hoping they play with a strong pack so our pace and try-scoring ability is too much for them to cope with.

“We’re at full strength, which is a bonus given when the game is.

“We had been concerned as playing on a bank holiday weekend could have meant we’d lose players, but that’s not the case.”
