Hercules Wimbledon close the gap at the top of the Southern Women's League
Hercules Wimbledon's women's track & field team continued their impressive start to their summer season by winning their first Southern Women's League match of the season at Wimbledon Park on Saturday.
During the afternoon, five club records were broken and Hercules Wimbledon athletes gained maximum points in six events.
Marathon runner Claire Grima gained a record-breaking double in the 1,500m and 3,000m.
She was cheered home by her two young sons, Luca and Jasper, who encouraged Grima with cries of "Come on mummy" as she raced home a clear winner in four minutes 57.7 seconds and 10:21.4 respectively to set club women's veteran over-35 records.
Other record-breakers included Alison Murray with a new veteran over-45 high jump mark; Lisa Thomas, who earlier in the day won the women's event in the Wimbledon Common parkrun, with a new veteran over-45 1,500m time, and Ann Martin with a new veteran over-50 record in the discus.

Emma Headley and Hannah Fernando won the 800m A and B races, Zoe Illis took the 1,500m B race and Amy Aronson the 3,000m B race.
Teenager Tallulah Atkin gained a double in the U15 100m and shot, and Elizabeth Thatcher took the 100m B race, and Chloe Lord the shot B.
Rebekah Riches and Amelia Casey took the 800m A and B races.
Other A string winners were Emilie Bokor-Ingram (400m) joint team manager Heather Letley (400m hurdles) and Chloe Lord (U15 75m hurdles).
Hercules Wimbledon ended the day with victory in both senior relays.
Laura Wignall, Florence King, Shirley Denchie and Emilie Bokor-Ingram took the 4x100m event while Wignall, Zoe Illis, Lisa Thomas and Bokor-Ingram won the 4x400m.
Overall, Hercules Wimbledon ran out convincing match winners, overcoming Haywards Heath, who beat Hercules Wimbledon by more than 150 points in the opening match at Erith.

The result puts the club in second spot behind Haywards Heath with two matches remaining.
