Surbiton’s Giselle Ansley is out to put World Cup disappointment behind her with a good showing at the Commonwealth Games.

Ansley was not selected for the England squad that finished 11th at the Rabobank World Cup in the Hague last month, but is in the 16-strong party heading for Glasgow later this month.

The 22-year-old and fellow Sugden Road favourites Georgie Twigg and Hollie Webb will take on Scotland, Wales, and South Africa in the Investec London Cup Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford next week as a pre-Games warm-up.

“It’s a real honour to have been selected for the Commonwealth Games,” said Ansley, who will be making her debut in the event.

“For me, missing out on playing at the World Cup was devastating, but we are a strong group and I know we can put in some strong performances up in Glasgow.”

Twigg, a bronze medal winner with England in India four years ago, added: “Delhi was a fantastic experience and it was great to get a bronze medal at one of my first major tournaments.

“We were obviously disappointed with the result at the World Cup, but it’s great to have another major tournament in the same summer to go out there as a team and improve.”

England, who face will meet Scotland, Wales, Australia and Malaysia in their four Commonwealth Games pool matches, saw head coach Jason Lee quit his post last week in the wake of his country’s worst showing at a World Cup.

Lee has been replaced by Danny Kerry for the next two tournaments.
