Tiffin Girls’ School student Inci Mehmet admitted two tee shots cost her English Women’s Amateur Championship title last week.
The 17-year-old Wentworth Golf Club junior shot a level par 71 at St Enodoc in Cornwall last Tuesday to lead the championship after the opening round.
But she had slipped back to 10 over by the end of Thursday’s final two rounds as she finished second – three shots behind 19-year-old winner Bronte Law.
Richmond’s Mehmet, who is now in Estonia for the European Ladies Amateur Championships, admitted things could have been better had her driving not been so wayward.
“I think this is the hardest course I have ever seen,” said the England international.
“I’ve never seen a golf course play so hard with the tees further back.
“I did well to come second but I definitely could have won.
“Two poor tee shots cost me two double bogeys losing four shots when I was second by only three.
“It was very frustrating.”
