Neal Ardley cut a downbeat figure in the immediate aftermath of Saturday’s League Two defeat to Stevenage Borough.

The boss admitted that the Dons home form of one point from three games is playing on his mind, and possibly contributed to the disappointing 3-2 scoreline.

Dons took the lead at the Cherry Red Records stadium in the first half via Matt Tubbs’ fourth league goal of the season.

However, Stevenage were level by the break and went on to win comfortably with two second half strikes – with only Adebayo Azeez's late strike to concern them - leaving Dons in mid-table.

Ardley said: “Our home form has got me down. When you have 4,500 people come to watch you at home and you don’t put in enough good performances or results to send them home happy, it’s disappointing.

“That has played on my mind – maybe that’s the reason why I wanted to chase the game and go at them early in the second half and get ahead again.

“Stevenage played quite narrow, with a deep line to deal with Bayo [Akinfenwa]. We did not use our width and when we lost it, we were a bit open.

“They were the reasons I felt we would lose the game if we stayed playing that way and I decided in the second half to have a crack at it, get more players forward and it might have backfired.”

He added: “For their second goal, the lad will tell you it was a shot, but it was never going to be a shot, and it’s changed the pace of the game.

“We chased it even more and became disjointed. But credit to them, they played hard, worked hard and deserved to win.”

Dons are back in action at the CRRS tomorrow night (Tuesday), facing Southend in the Johnstone Paint Trophy.
