Epsom CC stand on the brink of a second consecutive promotion in the Surrey Championship, but skipper Danny Secchi has only one thought on his mind.
Secchi’s men, third in Division Two, must beat relegated Trinity Mid-Whitgiftian today, while hoping second placed Chipstead slip up at Purley.
Secchi said: “The temptation is to keep in touch with the game at Purley, but then that can lead to players taking their eye off our game and underperforming.
“We need to have our minds focused completely on what we’ve got to do, and then see what happens.”
He added: “The pressure is on Chipstead, we have got absolutely nothing to lose.”
Epsom won promotion this time last year with a perfect record of 18 wins out of 18, and now they are looking for cricket in Division One for the first time in four years.
Secchi said: “With our momentum from last season I had a feeling we’d be there or thereabouts this time round.
“It’s been us, Chipstead and Ashtead at the top for most of the season.
“A lot of that is down to our team spirit, and everyone pulling in the same direction.
“We have standout players like Godfrey [Stevens] and Ben [Hudson], but we win and lose as a team.”
Epsom are in this position after a five-wicket thumping of Horlsey & Send on the road last weekend.
