Scotland international Alan Forsyth claimed nine goals in two games over the weekend as Surbiton hit the MHL Premier Division summit and cruised through to the English Hockey Cup third round, writes Sean Cotter.

Forsyth struck twice to add to a Matt Daly double and one each for Robert Schilling and Rob Moore as his side beat Beeston 6-2 at Sugden Road on Saturday.

Kingston Grammar School teacher Daly netted twice again and Alan Jolly a hat-trick as Michael Watt, William Marshall, Schilling, captain Ben Tibble, Steve Kelly – newly signed form Oxford Hawkes – and Will Calnan.

Despite the one-way traffic the visitors refused to simply defend, a tactic head coach Todd Williams more than appreciated.

“Tough day for Marlow,” he tweeted afterwards.

“But all credit for effort, spirit and desire to play. Best of luck for the season.”

Surbiton travel to Chelmsford in the next round of the cup on October 26 and they head to East Grinstead in the league on Sunday.

l Surbiton’s Rebecca Herbert was the star of the show on Saturday lunchtime, scoring four goals as Beeston – bottom of the WHL Premier Division – were thrashed 6-0 at Sugden Road.
