AFC Wimbledon let a lead slip twice against League Two’s bottom club Tranmere Rovers to take a single point from a 2-2 draw at the CRRS.

Dons remain unbeaten at home in six games, but they have also failed to pick up three points from their past three league games.

Jack Smith, with his first goal in Dons colours, put the Dons ahead only for Rovers to level within minutes through loanee Armand Gnanduillet’s long range effort.

Dons were ahead again just before the break when Adebayo Akinfenwa met Barry Fuller’s cross with a trademark header.

However Rovers, with new boss Micky Adams in charge for only the second time, made two changes immediately after the break and it paid dividends when Gnanduillet headed home a corner.

Dons boss Neal Ardley made his own changes including the introduction of  Adebayo Azeez for the tiring Matt Tubbs, and the young striker had the best chance to make sure Dons took all the points, however he was thwarted by the Rovers stopper Owain Fon Williams.

Ardley said: “Credit to Tranmere, they had nothing to lose, they are down at the bottom scrapping for everything.

“After their changes in the second half, they went 3-4-3, people don’t realise there was a system change.

“The momentum had swung a bit, and we were trying to stay in it and ride out that period and get a foot-hold on the game, but we did not play with enough quality during that spell.”

He added: “But I thought we were brilliant for the first half, we made them look ordinary and we worked the sides of the pitch brilliantly.

“Their goal was sloppy, out of nothing, but we should be going in half-time two or three up.”

More reaction to follow.
