So. Now what?

If the season ended today it would be inarguably our best since we came back to the Football League.

Finishing 12th in the table, a dream third round FA Cup tie that we nearly got something from, a win over They Who Shall Not Be Named, strong attacking football, big personalities - it was a team you could get behind.

The problem is that the season doesn’t end today. We only have the league to worry about now, but we have 21 matchdays of league to worry about.

We’re only six points out of the play-off spots, but also only 10 points above the drop zone. League Two is just one giant midtable- and three results one way or the other can dramatically change the tone of the season.

Tomorrow is Carlisle, a team that isn’t so much hitting the panic button as casting furtive glances in its direction.

AFC Wimbledon: Ardley slams referee after the tale of two penalties

Our next two games are against teams (Accrington and Morecambe) that flank us on either side of the table, and are the kind of games we need to win.

The two after that (Newport and Burton) are floating near the top of the table. And with our top goalscorer gone, there’s a lot of work to be done there.

Hangovers are more common in football than people care to admit. Just look at how our FA Cup guests are doing months after almost winning the Premier League.

We don’t have the luxury of having a hangover. Three bad results and all of a sudden we’re in a relegation fight. Again.

We’ve had a great season so far. But it can all go very sour very quickly. Patience, focus, and hard work will be required. From all of us.
