Walton Athletics Club siblings Sophie and Sam Mace led the way as the Stompond Lane club claimed a bank vault full of precious metal at the Surrey Championships over the weekend.

Sam set championship best marks to win the U15 boys hammer and discus with throws of 55.51 metres and 43.41m, respectively.

The 14-year-old also threw 42.97m to win the U15 boys javelin, but he could not complete a clean sweep in the throwing disciplines as he fell 31cm short of gold in the shot with his effort of 12.33m only good enough for silver.

Older sister Sophie was also in record breaking mood as she set a new county and championship best of 53.54m to win the U17 girls’ hammer and then added the U17 girls’ discus title with a throw of 42.94m to rank her number one in the UK.

Walton claimed 17 gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals in total.

Tait Jones won the U15 girls’ pole vault (2.60m) and discus (30.60m, while Jasmine De La Touche bagged the U13 girls’ shot (8.93) and discus (25.18m) titles.

The club’s golden collection was completed by title triumphs for Nicola Bell (U15 girls’ shot), Carla Letheby (senior women's javelin), Fiona De Mauny (senior women's 800m), Amelia Thorpe (U17 girls’ 300m hurdles), Anastasia Banbury (U15 girls’ hammer), Calum Beauchamp (U17 boys’ 400m hurdles), Jo Locker (senior women's 1,500m) and Joe Hubbard (U15 boys’ high jump).
