Teddington Swimming Club head coach Ed Sinclair could not hide his delight after nine members overcame rule changes to reach the British Summer National Championships.

Earlier this week British Swimming announced the 24 fastest swimmers this year to compete at the event next month – starring on July 27.

The list included Gina Heyn, 30, in the 50m freestyle, 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke, and 18-year-olds Zoe Bozzard-Hill, in the 50m freestyle, and Ollie Hall in the 50m breaststroke.

Sophie Johnson, 14, will compete in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle, while Alice Smail goes in the same age group in the 50m butterfly, and fellow 14-year-old Thalia Poaros swims in the 200m freestyle and butterfly, as well as the 400m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Thirteen-year-olds Sophie Fussell (50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke) and Anna Smail (50m, 100m and 200m freestyle) will also represent the club at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

The competition structure has changed to remove qualifying times and instead use fastest times posted in a 10-week competition window.

In addition the age groupings have changed and all age groups are age as at December 31 2015.

Sinclair said: “This year has been tough with the changes and it has set new challenges for the swimmers and I am extremely proud that these individuals have worked so hard and achieved their rankings in GB and England.”

Three Teddington swimmers have also qualified for the English Summer Championships taking place at the same time.

Clara Nutting, Oscar Aydin, Freya Shaw, James Petchey, Brandon Sayers and Daniel Edmiston will also be making the trip to Sheffield.
