AFC Wimbledon U18s bowed out of the FA Youth Cup last night going down 4-1 at home to Premier League champions Chelsea.
Despite the one-sided scoreline, the young Dons gave their more illustrious visitors a run for their money, and it was only two late goals that finally sealed their fate.
After falling behind to a Fiakyo Tomori header, the Dons rallied and striker Alfie Egan stunned the Blues with the equaliser before half-time.
Chelsea regained the lead on 65 minutes through the first of sub Jacob Maddox’s two goals – the other came inside the final 10 minutes to make it 3-1.
The final nail in the coffin was hammered home deep into injury time when Mukhtar Ali’s free-kick was too good for Jack Wingate in the Dons goal.
Reaction to come.
