Old Actonians Ladies stay top of the table after a 0-0 draw at newly promoted Crawley Wasps.

Crawley came into the game off a good win against AFC Wimbledon and the away side still had a 100% record so a closely fought game was expected.

Actonians made things difficult for themselves at the start of the first half by not getting the ball down on the floor as usual and possession switched constantly. A great chance to go ahead finally presented itself when Clemmie Moodie was taken out in the box and the referee gave a penalty.

Claire Stocks stepped up to take it and almost hit it too well with the ball crashing back off the post. Crawley were able to clear.

The homeside seemed encouraged by this let off and had a few minutes of possession before Actonians started to take control of the game and move the ball around better.

But there were no further clear-cut chances and at the break it was still 0-0.

The visitors started the second half determined to keep possession and patiently create some chances and certainly saw more of the ball in the second half than Crawley. A fair number of half-chances were created but the ball refused to go in the net. So despite working hard up until the very last minute it wasn’t to be.

Despite this Old Actonians remain at the top of the table after 5 games played. Player of the match was Clare Edmondson.

Next week the team is at home at Old Actonians Sports Ground against Horley Town, 2pm kick off. www.oldactoniansfc.co.uk Team: Kelly Doyle, Helen Ramsden (c), Angela Pack, Claire Stocks, Lachlyne Eastman, Linda Fox, Clare Edmondson, Sue Keeka, Clemmie Moodie, Carla Williams, Heidi Wright (Lindsay Canham 60) Meanwhile the Old Actonians Ladies reserve team started their campaign with a 4-0 home win over Surrey Ladies.

A dominant display saw the home side take an early lead through Alison Robinson who finished well on a through ball from MV Dutrieu. Surrey Ladies had no reply and their only chance in the first half was put high and wide. In the 2nd half Actonians continued the pressure and started to play very good passing football. And it wasn’t long before Polly Courtney turned home Shannon Jewell’s corner for 2-0. Courtney almost hit a second when clean through on goal but was held back and the resultant penalty was converted well by Jewell.

Surrey Ladies tried to rally but the home side finished off with a 4th, Jewell again involved feeding the ball to Dutrieu who finished neatly. Player of the match was Nat Randall.
