Mather: Teddington have nothing to lose in survival fight
Teddington head coach Giselle Mather is hoping her side can beat the odds by putting a nightmare season of injuries behind them to avoid the drop this weekend.
Mather’s men got a vital bonus point win on Saturday beating Guildford 36-13, thanks to tries from Ferg Farrell, Tor Dahl-Nielson and three tries from Tom Clare.
Teddington are second bottom in London South West Division Two and need everything to go their way this weekend if they are to stay up.
They need a bonus point win against Effingham & Leatherhead and for neighbours Twickenham – recently deducted five league points – to lose to guarantee survival.
Mather said: “It has given a real buzz to the end of the season, which has otherwise been a disaster.
“It has been a nightmare. For a club of our size to cope with the amount of injuries we have had, has just been unbelievable.
“We are all still standing and we are all still smiling. Whatever happens this weekend the boys will give it their best.
“It is a big ask to get back-to-back bonus point wins when we have struggled to get a normal win all year. We expected to be down by now. We have nothing to lose.”
